About Indian Head Half Eagles

The final run of circulating half eagles is storied in numismatic lore, domestic ideas, and world history. Beginning with an artistic update to an age old design and ending with one of the greatest downturns in the global economy, this is a series that has experienced its own corresponding share of changes over time.

The old Liberty Head design had been in use for over sixty years when Theodore Roosevelt began considering the modernization of America’s coinage. Seeking to bring the artistic merit up to his perceived standards of the international scale, he sought to employ some of the most renowned sculptors.
