About the Third Reich of Germany
The Third Reich of Germany arose from a series of grievances that initiated with the results of the first World War. What was presented as a thousand year republic and intended to resolve the multitude of issues that native Germans faced ultimately became one of the darkest eras of Modern Germany’s history. The events leading up to its formation, its efforts during wartime, and its final dissolution are still widely discussed by historians today.
Germany had only unified from a plethora of German States in 1871. Prior to that, the states were individualized and were some of the only parts of Europe not to be conquered by the old Roman Empire. Several of the states grew in prominence and held their own against the rest of Europe. Even after unification, the states were still allowed to manage many of their own affairs such as local governance and the coinage of precious metals.
