About Australia Florins

As the largest of Australia’s regularly circulating silver coins, the Florin was struck from 1910 to 1963 and represents the reigns of Edward VII, George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II. A few commemoratives were made and circulated alongside the standard issues, of note is the 1934 Centennial of Victoria and Melbourne which had 21,000 specimens melted. As with other silver Australian coins, the composition was 0.925 fine silver until 1945 and 0.500 fine thereafter and minting was sometimes outsourced to foreign facilities.
